Conditions that can cause tinnitus
Tinnitus is a symptom, not a disease. There are various conditions (almost always benign) that can trigger tinnitus such as aging, medications, jaw alignment, (TMJ), earwax, noise-induced hearing loss, and other medical conditions. However, discovering that you have tinnitus does not automatically mean that you have a medical condition. A hearing professional can help you determine the cause of your tinnitus. They may recommend a change in diet, medication, or use of a sound generator.
How sound generators work Sound generators are ear worn devices that are used in tinnitus and hyperacusis management programs using sound therapy. The devices produce a soft, soothing gentle noise similar to the sound from a showerhead, fountain or a gently falling rain. The noise helps reduce the perceived “loudness” of the tinnitus. With the loudness of the tinnitus reduced, the tinnitus becomes less annoying and more manageable. In hyperacusis treatment, the noise is used to “de-sensitize” the central auditory system.Tranquil is a sound generator for those patients that have normal hearing. It is comfortable, cosmetically appealing and does not fill the ear canal (non-occluding). It can be worn for all daily activity and may be worn while sleeping. Combo devices are combination of amplification and sound generator. Designed for those who have hearing loss and tinnitus and/or hyperacusis. An excellent benefit of the GHI instruments is the optional, patented soft silicone body construction, which allows the instruments to be comfortably worn for extended periods of time or while sleeping.
